Bored?

I was recently spending the afternoon with a friend (you know who you are!), who, after several minutes of pushing the boys in a swing, turned to me and said, "Don't you ever get bored?" I laughed, asking him what he meant, and he replied, "Well, I mean, they're cute and stuff... but after a few minutes, don't you get bored with them?"

This is now an ongoing joke between the two of us. First of all, no, I have NEVER felt bored with Dex and Jax. How could I? They are constantly doing new and remarkable things. In fact, I can hardly keep up with them and their non-stop entertainment! What may appear to be a simple routine to the average on-looker, is instead a series of fantastic opportunities for silly faces, new sounds, social and intellectual developments, as well as the perfection of new acrobatics and other physical feats. Today, for example:

- The boys woke up at 5 am when one of them (I still haven't identified the culprit) decided to wake the other one up with a rowdy game of peak-a-boo. This results in loud and continuous giggles from both munchkins, and though much too early for Mama, is just silly enough to elicit a few laughs from her, as well.

- Breakfast brought on another round of giggles when the boys decided it would be WAY more fun to hold hands and pull hair than it would be to actually eat. Try picturing them reaching over their booster seats to grasp each other's hands... what's boring about that? I was so sad when it was over!

- EVERYTHING IS NEW. This is basically true of everything, these days. Whether it's the look of surprise and horror when they realize that sand doesn't, in fact, taste yummy or the squeals of pure joy that accompany licks from their cousin's dog.... everything is so new and exciting for them and I get the immense pleasure of witnessing all of these discoveries.

- After running upstairs for a few minutes this afternoon, I came back downstairs to find Dex climbing his way up the staircase. Scary, yes... but SO VERY EXCITING! It's the first time either one of them has ever tried that!

- After dinner, D.R. will often hold the boys in his lap and play music on the computer. While both of the boys LOVE listening to tunes in the evening (or any time, for that matter), Jax has started rocking out to upbeat tunes by dancing and nodding his head to the music... so fun to watch.

MY POINT IS, this is far from boring. I get free entertainment from sunrise to sunset and I get the immense pleasure of being able to savor this first year of my sons' lives. I only hope that they will be as not-bored with me as I am with them. Seriously, I mean, I miss them when they're asleep, for crying out loud! :) How could I ever be bored with something I just can't get enough of? I'm so anxious to see what new things tomorrow will bring...
